How to unlock Swordsman

You need Barracks level 3 in the training city. Complete the following research as well:

• Iron Working level 1

Training cost & upkeep

The resource cost below trains one Swordsman. Base training time is 3m 45s, before building, research, and governor effects. Food upkeep is 7 per hour per unit at home. Marching troops consume twice their normal food upkeep.

Using Swordsmen in your army

Swordsmen have 250 base defense and 350 base health, compared with Warriors’ 50 defense and 200 health. They are an option when you want tougher infantry. They also receive a 1.1× matchup multiplier against Pikemen.

Their defense comes with a higher iron cost and a longer training time than Warriors. Build the mine capacity to replace losses before expanding the force.

Before you march

• Scout the target and review the available report.
• Check your hero, troop mix, and current research.
• Keep enough food for the march and enough carrying capacity for the return.
• Review scouting and combat planning before choosing a force.
