Beginner’s guide — Your first city

Start Law of Kings with a practical plan for resources, construction, research, heroes, scouting, and beginner protection.

Start with a sustainable city

Your first task is to support the city and the army you intend to build. Farms produce food, Sawmills produce lumber, Quarries produce stone, and Iron Mines produce iron. Cottages add population; residents pay tax in gold.

  1. Review resource income and build the field types your next upgrades consume.
  2. Develop the Town Hall alongside essential city structures. It limits the level of other buildings and fields.
  3. Build an Academy after reaching Town Hall level 2. Early production research makes the economy more useful over time.
  4. Develop your Barracks and Rally Point, then train a force your food supply can maintain.
  5. Build the Lodge and Feasting Hall to recruit and appoint a governor.

Understand beginner protection

The supplied rules give new players seven days of beginner protection. Reaching Town Hall level 6 ends it early. Plan your defenses and alliance connections before crossing that threshold.

Get information before taking losses

Scouts require Barracks level 2 and Informatics level 1. Scouting reports help you choose an appropriate target, while further Informatics research makes the information more precise.

Low-level camps and valleys provide early objectives, but do not assume a win simply because a target has a low level. Review the garrison, your army, research, hero, and available carrying capacity.

Prepare to play with allies

An Embassy is required to join or found an alliance. Allies can coordinate, reinforce cities, and share strategic objectives. Founding an alliance costs 10,000 gold in the supplied rules.
