Greywater

The Shared River

“No bank stands alone.”

The motto of Greywater
ANCESTRAL HOMELAND · LOWER LORRAINE

From Lower Lorraine to Greywater

The descendants of House Dalen left Lower Lorraine with ferrymen and bridge builders who had helped scattered households escape. Family chronicles describe a crossing where the heir waited until the final wagon had reached safety before following. In Corvaine, those settlers built Greywater’s earliest crossings together. Their descendants did not always preserve that cooperation, but the River Accord later restored its spirit. Greywater’s oldest royal story measures leadership by whether everyone reaches the far bank.

The Shared River

Greywater's settlements grew beside waterways that brought trade in fair weather and disaster in heavy rain. For generations, neighboring lords argued over bridges, tolls, and flood banks. Each claimed the right to command the river. None could persuade it to obey.

After a catastrophic flood swept through several towns, ferrymen and builders joined forces to rescue families on both sides of every disputed boundary. Their work led to the River Accord, a pledge to maintain crossings and embankments together. Greywater's citadel became the meeting place where quarrels were settled before they threatened the shared defenses.

The king's death has revived old toll claims. Some lords see a bridge as a place to collect coin; others see it as a road for an army. Greywater's people understand that choking one crossing can starve a settlement far downstream. Its next ruler inherits an intricate web of obligations, and every broken agreement travels further than expected.

Every state carries its own history. In Law of Kings, players build cities, form alliances, and contest citadels within the same persistent realm. Read the citadel guide for gameplay rules.
