“Stand for those within.”
The motto of Stonehold
From Bavaria to Stonehold
Stonehold’s founding dynasty traces its ancestry to the exiled heirs of House Rothen from Bavaria. They arrived with masons whose families carried carved marks rather than grand genealogies to remember their work. The first stronghold was raised by both groups, and its founding pledge gave shelter to every household that helped build it. When a later gate captain admitted the town during a siege, he upheld that older promise. Stonehold’s royal descent and its craftsmen’s history remain inseparable.
The Debt in the Walls
Stonehold's citadel was not raised in a single reign. Generations of masons extended its walls, repairing the scars left by each siege. Families recorded their work with small carved marks on the hidden faces of the stones, creating a history that no visiting noble could read from the courtyard.
In Stonehold's most desperate siege, the ruling household prepared to surrender the surrounding town while preserving its own fortress. The gate captain opened the citadel to the townspeople instead. Craftsmen, laborers, and soldiers held it together until relief arrived. Afterward, the household lost its authority, and the captain's oath became the state's measure of leadership.
With Corvaine divided, outsiders prize Stonehold as a seat of power. Its walls invite dreams of permanence, but its people remember what happens when protection becomes a privilege. Any lord who claims the fortress also inherits the debt carved into it: stone has value because of the lives it shelters.
Every state carries its own history. In Law of Kings, players build cities, form alliances, and contest citadels within the same persistent realm. Read the citadel guide for gameplay rules.
