“Keep the fire.”
The motto of Highmoor
From Saxony to Highmoor
The royal descendants of House Wulfen came from Saxony with a company of watchkeepers and their families. Among their few possessions were lantern shields marked with the names of lost towers. They settled Highmoor’s uplands and taught their children that a warning belonged to everyone who might need it. The beacon keeper who later defied a commander was drawing on that older duty. Highmoor’s signal fires carry the memory of a homeland whose last warning came too late.
The Last Beacon
Across Highmoor's windswept uplands stand the ruins of signal towers, built to carry warnings faster than a rider could cross the moors. Their keepers once belonged to humble families entrusted with a grave duty: light the beacon when danger came, regardless of whose banner approached.
During a rebellion, one keeper refused a commander's order to leave his tower dark. His warning allowed neighboring settlements to evacuate before the fighting reached them. The commander called it treason. The crown later called it service, and Highmoor's citadel adopted the beacon as its emblem.
Since the king's death, the towers have begun showing contradictory signals. Rival lords accuse one another of spreading false alarms, while villagers wonder whether the next light means rescue or invasion. Highmoor needs a ruler whose word can travel those lonely distances without changing its meaning. Here, loyalty begins with being able to trust a flame on the horizon.
Every state carries its own history. In Law of Kings, players build cities, form alliances, and contest citadels within the same persistent realm. Read the citadel guide for gameplay rules.
